TBPL is producing two types of Biolarvicides products, and one Biopesticide commercially known as Bactivec®, Griselesf® and Thurisave-24. These products have been effectively used in different parts of the world apart from Tanzania and Africa, others are Latin America and Asia. They have been used to successfully combat disease-bearing mosquitoes both preventively and as parts of integrated control programmes. They have also proved useful in epidemics of serious illnesses such as Yellow Fever, Dengue, Malaria, Human Filariasis, various types of Encephalitis and Onchocerciasis or River Blindness. They are also used to control infestations of other species of blood feeding diptera, whose bites cause discomfort to man both in communities and tourist areas It’s a modern technology of fight against the malaria vector while preventing natural resources.
It’s a modern technology of fight against the malaria vector while preventing natural resources.
The products are environmental friendly and highly specific for Mosquito larvae.
Highly effective control of the larvae of different species of mosquito in urban, rural, industrial and tourist development areas, and under the most varied climates and application conditions;
Totally harmless effects on other animal and plant species present in the various aquatic habitats where mosquitoes develop
Effective integration with environmental health programmes to control diseases transmitted to man by mosquitoes.
Just one application kills mosquito larvae in stages I-III and the beginning of stage IV, through ingestion.
Griselesf® is an aqueous suspension formulation of Bacterial larvicide Bacillus sphaericus (Bs),
strain 2362 with biolarviciding action used in the control of mosquito larvae belonging to the
genera Anopheles, Culex, Mansonia, Psorophora and other. It is used preferably in permanent
breeding sites with clean or polluted water, is biodegradable and innocuous for the ecosystem
and has the potential of multiplying in the dead larvae (recycling) acquiring in this way a very
long lasting action. Griselesf® also kills 100% larvae but in 48-72 hours after ingestion, causing
intestinal paralysis in the larvae and poisoning due to the toxic crystals produced by the spores,
besides is more effective in highly polluted waters such as septic tanks, pit latrines, black waste
waters and other.
Commercialized in 20L, 5L and 1L.
Dosage: 5-10 ml per square meter (m 2 ) of a breeding site.
Bactivec® is an aqueous suspension formulation of bacterial larvicide, Bacillus thuringiensis
(Bti), serotype H-14, strain 266/2: Biopotency ≥ 1200 International Toxic Units (ITU) Img.
The product can be applied to mosquito breeding sites by aerial spraying or a hand – operated
compression sprayer in open bodies or water as well as by a drop dispenser into water
containers. causing intestinal paralysis in the larvae and poisoning due to the
toxic crystals produced by the spores.
Dosage: 2- 5ml per square meter (m 2 )of a breeding site. 30ml pack (Dose: 1ml per 50L)
Bactivec® is a quick action larvicide that kills 100% of the mosquito’s larvae in less than 24 hours after ingestion,
Commercialized in 20L, 5L, and 1L
Thurisave-24 is a microbial insecticide produced by Tanzania Biotech Products Limited for Plants pests control particularly lepidopteran larvae. It contains the spores and unique crystalline proteins produced by a naturally occurring bacterium, Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies kurstaki (Btk). This biological component is combined with approved ingredients and water to make the final product.
Btk must be eaten by the target pest larvae in order to cause mortality. The ingested bacterium is not what kills the larvae, but rather a protein crystal produced by the bacterium. The crystal carries a toxin that is lethal to some lepidopteran larvae. To release the toxin, the crystals require the alkaline environment found in the gut of lepidopteran larvae. When Btk is eaten by a susceptible larva, the toxin is released, the midgut wall is destroyed, the gut becomes paralyzed, and the larva stops feeding within a few minutes. Destruction of the midgut wall allows the bacteria to enter the blood of the target insect, causing full-scale infection and death of the insect.
Its effectiveness is seen on crops like maize, cotton, tobacco, cabbages, cassava, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers etc.
For an acre: Use 2L of T-24 diluted into 80L of water against Fall armyworms and other Lepidopteran catapillars except for those which affect cotton crops use 2.5L Note: In every 20L of water mix with 650ml of T-24 for cotton crops but for other crops use 500ml of T-24 Repeat the spraying cycle when you see the signs of pests in the field.
